Ralph C. Caparelli, Class of 1942

Representative Capparelli, an 18 term legislator in the Illinois House of Representatives serving the 41st Ward (D) from 1971 - 2004, is a fine example of community and school loyalty. Being a mem­ber of the Taft Founders Club he reflects on the first days at Taft, "After one year at Schurz, it was quite interesting to attend a new school that was without desks or other vital equipment. We made the best of it!” 

He is a former school teacher with a B.A.in education from Northern Illinois University.  He served overseas in the U.S. Navy and has received numerous awards, including the Richard J. Daley "Medal of Honor" and the "Golden Heart" award from Passionist Monastery. 

He is married to wife, Cordelia, has two children and four grandchildren.
