The Class of 1960 Scholarship Challenge

Responding to the front page article of the TAA winter 2010 newsletter, a member of the 1960 class has taken up the challenge extended by Darlene Bruemmer Hendricksen (June 1962).  Darlene is the widow of Robert "Bill" Hendricksen (June 1960) and has donated a $1,000 scholarship in his name each year for the last ten years.

Now, another member of the 1960 class has picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Darlene.  As the 50th reunion of that class approaches in October, this alum would like to challenge the classes of January and June, 1960, to give to the  TAA scholarship fund.  This alum will match all gifts given at fifty cents on the dollar, up to a total of $20,000, for a class maximum of $40,000.  The time frame is from now until December 31, 2010.  This will then be presented as a gift from the class of 1960 in honor of their 50 year anniversary.

What an incredible opportunity to pay it forward!  Although this challenge is limited to the classes of 1960, perhaps this will inspire other classes to make similar gifts or perhaps another challenge altogether.

Checks should be sent to Taft Alumni Association, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago, IL  60631, Attn: Scholarship Fund.  Be sure to write "1960 Scholarship Challenge" on the memo line of the check or money order.

In this economy, our little brothers and sisters at Taft need our help now more than ever.  What a fantastic way to do it!
